Dr. Anh, GAF Guest, observing a procedure at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, Illinois.
Donations are essential to the Global Arthroscopy Foundation
(GAF) to achieve its goals and fulfilling its mission. We welcome
your donations. Possible donations include:
- Medical equipment for home hospitals –
Sophisticated medical equipment is difficult to obtain in most
of the countries where GAF-trained orthopedic surgeons practice.
As a result, providing equipment to these doctors is part of GAF's
mission. To date, we have received both new and used equipment
from medical device companies and from orthopedic surgeons in
the U.S. who are retiring and closing their offices.
- Cash donations – Cash donations
are vital to this work. It is with these funds that GAF is able
to provide the transportation and living expenses of visiting
surgeons. In addition, GAF must pay for the cadaver knees and
shoulders that trainees use at the Orthopedic Learning Center
and for transportation of medical device donations to GAF-trained
surgeons..
- The time of experts – Each
orthopedic surgeon who has participated in GAF training has had
the benefit of the expert training and guidance of Dr. Howard
J. Sweeney, along with other surgeons and experts in the Chicago
area. Dr. Gregory Palutsis has traveled to Lithuania to provide
follow-up on-site training and expertise. Our plan is to expand
the mentor pool in the coming year. Interested orthopedic surgeons
should contact Dr. Sweeney.
For information on how to donate, please contact Dr. Howard J.
Sweeney at hsweeney@globalarthro.org.
The Global Arthroscopy Foundation also is grateful to the Arthroscopy
Association of North America for donating the scholarships it has
provided that allow GAF participants to take part in trainings at
the Orthopedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Six scholarships
have been provided ranging from $500 to $1500 in amount. |
